Dozens of prisoners had illicit mobile phones seized after the Government’s nationwide wildfire emergency alert unexpectedly activated hidden devices in prisons.
Staff reportedly used the loud alerts to identify cells containing phones, including at Feltham, Frankland and Belmarsh. The alert, sent across England and Wales, also caused confusion and panic among some motorists and residents.
