Does paying more for steak actually mean you’re getting better beef?

I bought steaks from Costco, Whole Foods, Walmart, and Aldi and put them head-to-head to find out which store actually gives you the best steak for your money.

I compared the things I look at as a butcher: marbling, trimming, thickness, fat, texture, cooking performance, flavor, and most importantly — price versus actual quality.

Some of the expensive steaks looked impressive in the package but didn’t perform the way I expected. And some of the cheaper options came surprisingly close.

If you’re spending serious money on steak, knowing what you’re actually paying for can save you a lot of money over the years.
