Nigel Farage has been re-elected as the MP for Clacton after winning a by-election. The Reform UK leader did not attend the count over disputed claims of a threat against him.

He said he was told by police not to attend the election count due to a “credible threat” against him but it is understood that Essex Police did not tell Mr Farage, or any other candidate, not to attend the count.

Mr Farage won 62.82% of the vote with more than 22,000 votes. His share of the vote has risen since 2024 but Count Binface won more than 9,000 votes.

The Reform UK leader said before the official result that he had won "convincingly" and that the result was an “overwhelming” endorsement of him.

Speaking before the official result, he said "I’ve managed to beat the establishment candidate.”

Mr Farage added: “Look, this is an overwhelming endorsement of me. I have had enough of being judged by mainstream media, being called a criminal.

“Do you know, if I made one sin, if I haven’t filled in a piece of paper, I’ve broken no law, I’ve broken no tax law, I’ve taken no public money, I don’t even own a motorhome.

“Maybe I haven’t filled in a piece of paper. I’m confident that I’m right, we’ll see where we go. I put this to the people of Clacton, said ‘you decide my future’, and tonight they will.”
