Vijay Urges PM Modi To Freeze Lok Sabha Strength At 543 | Tamil Nadu Raises Delimitation Concerns

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the Centre to permanently fix the strength of the Lok Sabha at 543 members.

The move comes days after the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a resolution opposing delimitation based on post-1971 population figures. Vijay argued that changing the distribution of Lok Sabha seats on the basis of updated population figures could disproportionately affect southern states that have made significant progress in population control.

In his letter, Vijay also referred to the Assembly's resolution and called for the existing distribution of Lok Sabha seats among states to remain unchanged.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister further urged the Centre to implement 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies without delay.

The delimitation issue has emerged as a major political flashpoint, with parties in Tamil Nadu raising concerns over the potential impact on the political representation of southern states.
