A severe thunderstorm swept through Ottawa late Wednesday night, dumping 22 millimetres of rain in less than an hour and leaving approximately 28,000 Hydro Ottawa customers without power. CTV's Katelyn Wilson assesses the damage in the city's west end, where resident Rob Williams found two family vehicles crushed by an uprooted tree. Wind gusts reaching 107 km/h snapped hydro poles along Baseline Road and caused further damage to the roof of resident Branko Kondic's house. The storm marks another cleanup for residents already recovering from Canada Day flash floods, adding to a record-breaking summer total of more than 500 millimetres of rain.
