Rotterdam Port Explosion Kills 1, Injures Six | Blast Hits Petroleum Storage Facility In Netherlands

A deadly explosion at a petroleum storage facility in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands has killed at least one person and injured six others.

The blast occurred in the Europoort industrial area, part of Europe’s largest seaport. Emergency services rushed to the scene, with ambulances and a trauma helicopter deployed.

According to a spokesperson for an energy commodities trading company, the explosion occurred during maintenance work on a storage tank involving pipes. Police are investigating the cause and have said there is currently no immediate indication of sabotage.

The Rotterdam port area is home to major oil refineries, fuel facilities and industrial infrastructure. A separate power outage and transformer fire also disrupted parts of the port, although authorities said that incident was not connected to the explosion.
