Indian Navy Launches ‘Shruti’ Offshore Patrol Vessel | Major Boost to Indigenous Defence

The Indian Navy has taken another major step towards strengthening its indigenous warship fleet with the launch of the next-generation offshore patrol vessel ‘Shruti’ at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata.

The vessel is part of India’s next-generation offshore patrol vessel programme and is being developed alongside vessels being built at GRSE in Kolkata and Goa Shipyard Limited in Goa.

The indigenously designed and built patrol vessels are intended for a wide range of missions, including maritime surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, as well as anti-piracy operations.

The launch highlights the Indian Navy’s growing focus on domestic shipbuilding and supports the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
