Syria verdict: Atef Najib accused of overseeing 2011 crackdown

The final verdict for former Syrian security official Atef Najib, accused of directing the 2011 Deraa crackdown, is due on Tuesday.

A cousin of Bashar al-Assad and former head of Deraa’s political security, Najib is the only defendant present; Bashar and Maher al-Assad are among those tried in absentia.
