Libya’s vital oil infrastructure is facing a massive security threat after a drone crashed near the main oil tank and pipeline network at the Zawiya Oil Refining Company in western Libya. The National Oil Corporation said the incident was the third such attack in just two days. No casualties or damage were reported in the latest incident, but the repeated attacks have triggered serious concerns over the safety of the country’s energy infrastructure. The latest incident followed a drone attack on a gasoline storage tank at the Zawiya oil depot that sparked a major fire and prompted the NOC to declare a state of maximum emergency. Another drone reportedly crashed into a naphtha tank earlier. The NOC has warned that continued attacks could force it to declare force majeure and halt refinery operations. With Zawiya capable of processing 120,000 barrels of crude per day, any prolonged shutdown could further complicate Libya’s fragile energy sector.
