South Africa marks 70 years since historic Women’s March

South Africa has commemorated 70 years since the historic Women’s March of 1956, when about 20,000 women marched to the capital to protest against apartheid.

National Women’s Day is now a time to celebrate the rights and freedoms achieved in South Africa’s democracy. But seven decades after the march, many women say the fight for equality and justice is far from over.
