Russia on Sunday claimed a fresh battlefield advance in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces captured the villages of Vasyutinske and Toretske. The reported gains come as Moscow continues its grinding offensive across the eastern front.

The developments unfolded amid a wider escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war. Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia’s Belgorod region reportedly killed five people and injured around two dozen others, including a four-year-old child, according to regional authorities cited by AP. Russia said it intercepted 153 Ukrainian drones overnight.
