Former Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has not been seen in public since 2021, when her government was overthrown by a military coup. She has been detained ever since, with knowledge of her health and whereabouts a mystery. Recent photos provide a very rare glimpse into her life. They show the 81-year-old meeting the International Red Cross, and, in another shot, cutting a slice of a birthday cake. Her family remains gravely concerned and are fighting for her release, as her son Kim Aris tells DW.
