I’m rebuilding the original 120-year-old window sashes in my abandoned general store home renovation ~ and this week, we’re finally putting them back together.

Restoring these historic windows has been one of the biggest challenges of this entire renovation. Instead of replacing them with new windows, I’m learning how to repair and rebuild the original wooden window sashes by hand so I can preserve as much of this old building as possible.

In this episode, I’m cutting the window sashes apart, improving on the techniques I used the first time around, and using the Festool Domino to create new joinery before gluing and clamping everything back together. There has definitely been a learning curve, but this round went so much smoother and I can finally feel myself getting better at restoring these old windows.

Little by little, these 120-year-old windows are coming back to life, and we’re getting closer to one of the biggest transformations this building has seen yet.
