Hundreds of people have also protested against mass tourism in Mallorca, raising concerns over the impact of overtourism on housing, living costs and local communities in Spain's Balearic Islands.
In India, the Amarnath Yatra 2026 will remain suspended from August 9 on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to adverse weather forecasts and track restoration and maintenance work. The traditional Chhari Mubarak procession will continue through the Pahalgam route, with the pilgrimage scheduled to culminate on August 28.
The Indian government has also said that users will not have to pay transaction charges for UPI payments, while a nominal Merchant Discount Rate may be introduced for a limited category of merchant transactions in the future.
Meanwhile, spectacular visuals have emerged from Bristol in western England as the annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta gets underway, with a mass ascent of hot air balloons filling the skies above the city.
