Electrical failure causes widespread rail disruption across the North West and Midlands

An electrical supply failure has caused major disruption across the rail network in Greater Manchester, the Midlands and north west England, with passengers facing widespread delays and cancellations.

Multiple train operators, including Northern and TransPennine Express, issued "do not travel" warnings, while Avanti West Coast, East Midlands Railway and Transport for Wales were forced to cancel or alter services.
