SpaceX Falcon Rocket Crashes Into Moon? Massive Lunar Impact Raises Space Debris Concerns

A SpaceX Falcon rocket stage is believed to have crashed into the Moon after drifting through space since completing its mission to launch a lunar lander.

The multi-ton rocket was expected to strike the lunar surface at nearly 5,400 mph, potentially creating a 60-foot-wide and 12-foot-deep crater, according to NASA estimates. Astronomers are now working to confirm whether the impact has taken place.

Unlike rockets that burn up in Earth's atmosphere, this upper stage remained in deep space before eventually being pulled toward the Moon by gravity.
