LIVE: SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Is About to CRASH Into the Moon

A discarded SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage is on a confirmed collision course with the Moon—and we are watching LIVE.

The impact is predicted for approximately 1:35 a.m. Central Time on August 5, 2026, near the Einstein and Bell craters on the lunar limb. The uncontrolled rocket stage, weighing roughly 4–5 metric tons, will strike the Moon at approximately 5,400 mph.

NASA says the probability of impact is now 100%. The collision could create a new crater approximately 60 feet wide and throw lunar dust and rock above the surface. Scientists hope telescopes may detect a faint impact flash or an ejecta plume rising beyond the Moon’s edge—but visibility is not guaranteed because the impact site is illuminated by sunlight.
