Karnataka Convenes High-Stakes All-Party Meeting on Cauvery Water Dispute | DK Shivakumar

The Cauvery water dispute has entered a crucial phase as Karnataka convened an all-party meeting in Bengaluru led by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to formulate a united response to the ongoing water-sharing conflict with Tamil Nadu. Leaders across political parties discussed the state's legal options following the Cauvery Water Management Authority's direction on water releases and reiterated that protecting Karnataka's drinking water and farmers remains the priority.
The meeting comes after the postponement of the proposed talks between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and D.K. Shivakumar. At the same time, Karnataka is reviving the long-pending Mekedatu balancing reservoir project, with a fresh DPR expected to be submitted, while improved inflows into the Kabini reservoir due to recent rains have temporarily eased immediate pressure over water releases.

Political exchanges have also intensified, with Tamil Nadu maintaining that an all-party meeting is unnecessary because the Assembly has already adopted a unified position on the issue
