We are travelling back to Arrakis to work through the trilogy and top things off with Dune Messiah. I’ve just re-read the book by Frank Herbert and cant wait to talk about the things in this movie.
The book itself is regarded as one of the best Sci-fi novels ever written and its influence on the genres completely unmeasurable. Be it Star Wars, The Chronicles Of Riddick, Stargate or Alien its difficult to imagine something Sci-fi without thinking of the novel. Now because of this the film rights were a hot property and immediately people saw its potential. Arthur P Jacobs locked down the rights which gave him just under a decade to make the movie. Unfortunately he passed away in 1973 and 74 saw them being bought by Jean Paul Gibson. He brought in Alejandro Jodorowksy to direct and he ended up hiring HR Giger. Some of his designs are outlined in this book and though the project failed…a lot of the stuff then made it to alien. Jodorowksy wanted this to be one of th ebiggest films ever though and took some big swings when it came to the casting
