Firefighters in Spain and France have made progress against wildfires, allowing residents of nine of eleven evacuated Spanish towns to return home, while crews near Bordeaux contained the main blaze overnight. However, fires near Madrid, Toledo and Avila remain uncontrolled, and Spain's fourth heatwave of the summer is set to begin, bringing renewed high temperatures. In France, President Emmanuel Macron has described the crisis as the country's worst forest fire emergency since World War II, with around 250,000 people displaced so far.
