A large-scale Delhi Police surveillance exercise using facial recognition and crime database matching has identified nearly 2,900 individuals with criminal records among participants in the recent student protest led by Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar during the Parliament March on July 20, according to findings accessed by CNN-News18.

The development has prompted security agencies to raise concerns about what they describe as a significant infiltration of organised and repeat offenders into a gathering that was projected as a democratic protest by students and young participants.
