The River Ravi, usually reduced to a trickle, is swelling again after heavy rains across the border in India, prompting Pakistani authorities to place emergency teams and rescue boats on standby. Punjab's provincial capital and other major cities have already been inundated by cloudbursts bringing hundreds of millimetres of rain. Officials remain alert given last year's devastating floods, which forced the evacuation of two million people and killed livestock and crops, with the monsoon season expected to continue until September.
