The European Union is reportedly set to allow Greece-based LNG carrier operator Dynagas to continue transporting Russian liquefied natural gas under a new sanctions package targeting Moscow, according to a Financial Times report citing diplomats involved in the negotiations. The proposal would permit EU companies to ship Russian LNG to third countries for 12 months, with volumes capped at 2025 levels. The package also includes an extension of the Russian oil price cap and new measures targeting Russia's banking sector. The reported exemption has reignited debate over Europe's efforts to curb Moscow's revenues while protecting its own shipping industry, particularly in Greece, a dominant player in the global LNG carrier market.
