Breaking : Stones Pelted, 5 Delhi Police Officials Injured, Tear Gas Fired As Protest Turns Violent

A protest in Delhi demanding the Education Minister’s resignation turned violent near Tolstoy Marg, a short distance from Jantar Mantar and Parliament Street Police Station. According to police, protesters moved towards the junction, threw bottles and pelted stones at personnel deployed there. Five police personnel were injured, including two assistant commissioner-rank officers. The correspondent said one police officer was pulled into the crowd, surrounded and assaulted, after which police and riot-control teams used force and fired two to three tear gas shells to control the gathering. Police said protest organisers were asked to reason with the crowd, but the protesters did not heed them. The anchor said the protest had remained peaceful through the previous night, while the correspondent said a similar incident had been reported in Connaught Place the previous evening.
