US President Donald Trump will meet Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun in Washington, DC later on Tuesday.
It’s the first time in nearly two decades that a Lebanese president is visiting the White House.
It follows a US-brokered agreement between Lebanon and Israel that calls for disarming Hezbollah and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Lebanese authorities believe diplomacy with Israel is the only viable path to regaining sovereignty and ending the conflict.
But it’s a decision that divided the country.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from Beirut, Lebanon.
