Just three months after being approved by the federal government, construction has begun on the Enbridge Sunrise pipeline expansion project near Prince George, B.C.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson made the announcement on Monday afternoon, promising Canada has now “gone from delay to delivery.”

“This is how we strengthen Canadian energy security, support affordability and prove once again what being an energy superpower looks like,” Hodgson said.

The $4-billion expansion — which is expected to be complete in late 2028 — will add more than 100km of new pipeline between Chetwynd and the U.S. border, increasing the capacity of provincial natural gas transportation.
