Andy Burnham enters No 10 with pledge to rebuild Britain and restore hope
Andy Burnham has become the UK's seventh prime minister in a decade, taking over from Keir Starmer following his resignation. Speaking outside Downing Street after meeting the King, Burnham pledged to prioritise the cost-of-living crisis, promising fresh measures within days on how they would be funded. He also vowed to end rough sleeping, reindustrialise Britain, nationalise utilities and decentralise power, describing his vision as an effort to "upend the political consensus of the past 40 years." Burnham said further details of his agenda would be unveiled later in the year.
