Four seasonal farmworkers were burned alive inside a car while criminal labor brokers allegedly held the doors shut from the outside. The men had reportedly protested against the poor conditions they faced on the job.The murder has reignited a national debate over the pay and living conditions of Italy’s largely migrant agricultural workforce. For years, not only in Italy criminal networks have profited from a system that critics say leaves vulnerable workers at the mercy of illegal recruiters and organized crime.
