FSB FOILS SEVASTOPOL ATTACK: Uncovers Explosive Device; Suspect Remanded in Custody
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on July 17 that it had thwarted a planned terrorist attack in Sevastopol and detained a suspect accused of preparing to bomb a memorial marking the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy. According to the FSB, the suspect had assembled a radio-controlled improvised explosive device and allegedly gathered information on Russian military facilities and the aftermath of Ukrainian strikes in Crimea. Security officers seized the device during a search and opened a criminal case on terrorism and explosives-related charges. The case has been referred to court, and the accused faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
