U.S. President Donald Trump says American forces are targeting Iranian capabilities linked to the Strait of Hormuz and will continue military operations, while insisting that a negotiated settlement with Tehran remains possible.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said the U.S. was "taking out" Iran's capabilities related to the Strait and announced the restoration of a blockade, adding that countries doing business with Iran would not be allowed through, while others would retain access.

Trump also called on Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, to reimburse the United States for protecting the Strait of Hormuz and regional security.
