Prayers Suspended At Kolkata Airport Mosque Over Security Concerns; Relocation Talks Intensify

Prayers at the 136-year-old mosque located inside the Kolkata Airport premises have been suspended over security concerns. The structure, situated barely 165 metres from the runway, has been flagged as a potential obstacle to flight operations and airport expansion. Airport authorities have stopped issuing entry passes to worshippers. Discussions are intensifying between the Centre and the West Bengal government to relocate the mosque outside the airport boundary. While some political leaders argue that national security and airport safety must take precedence, others maintain that any decision to relocate the mosque should only be taken after consulting the Muslim community and worshippers.
