Iran has claimed that it intercepted and targeted two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, stating the vessels violated rules and endangered shipping. The Revolutionary Guard Corps stopped the vessels after disabling their systems. Tehran declared the Strait of Hormuz shut until further orders, calling the operation retaliation for US strikes on Iranian coastal military bases. However, the United States insists that the international waterway remains open. US forces and CENTCOM are positioned to protect commercial shipping and ensure freedom of navigation, maintaining that Iran does not control the waterway and cannot dictate traffic terms.
