CM Vijay To Distribute Government Job Certificates to the Families of Karur Stampede Victims

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay made his first visit to Karur following the September 27 stampede to distribute government job certificates to the victims' families. The move has sparked severe political backlash from opposition parties, including the DMK, CPI, and CPIM. The Left parties argue that offering government jobs while a CBI probe is underway could influence witnesses and dilute the investigation. They also raised concerns over the blurring of lines between party and government, noting the stampede occurred during a TVK event. Despite these objections, the Madras High Court allowed the distribution of temporary job certificates subject to judicial review. Earlier, the Supreme Court also dismissed a DMK plea seeking to regulate the Chief Minister's visit. Wearing black to mourn the victims, Vijay arrived under tight security, with heavy police deployment across the district to manage large crowds. During his visit, the Chief Minister is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a new footwear factory.
