Bengaluru Begins Safe Footpath Drive To Clear Encroachments And Allocate Rs 70 Crore For Repairs

The Karnataka government has launched the Safe Footpath campaign across five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority to reclaim pavements from illegal encroachments. Civic officials deployed cranes and bulldozers to remove abandoned vehicles, illegal structures, and vendors obstructing pedestrian pathways. The massive clearance drive aims to restore pedestrian safety, ensure obstruction-free footpaths, and improve overall public accessibility in Bengaluru. Authorities noted that blocked pavements force pedestrians to walk on busy roads, leading to accidents and severe traffic snarls in the city. To address infrastructure concerns, the government has allocated 70 crore rupees to simultaneously repair footpaths that are damaged or in a state of disrepair following the clearance operations. The civic initiative focuses on ensuring that pavements are strictly utilized for their intended purpose by citizens, rather than being occupied by illegal properties and vendors.
