The bodies of seven Sri Lankan prison guards and several inmates have been handed over to their grieving families in Colombo. The deaths followed a violent riot at a prison in Negombo, a city north of the capital, which erupted on Monday and left at least 26 people dead. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the unrest, which represents one of the deadliest incidents of prison violence in the country in recent years.
Al Jazeera’s Minelle Fernandez reports from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
