20-year-old Jesus Maharaj who was electrocuted in balandra one week ago, has died
•Jesus have suffered severe injuries after the electrocution on Thursday June 11th, 2026. His legs were subsequently amputated at the Sangre Grande hospital and he had been transferred to the Mt. Hope Hospital for specialist treatment.

Councillor demands answers after Balandra horror leaves victim maimed— warnings about dangerous utility infrastructure ignored
•A Councillor representing the Valencia East/Toco district is demanding accountability following the horrific incident in Balandra that left two people seriously injured, including one victim who reportedly lost both feet.
•Councillor Anicia Williams-Penny, in a recent Facebook post, said the tragedy has deeply affected the community and has become even more personal for her as one of the victims is a former classmate.
•The Councillor said the incident raised serious concerns about the condition of utility infrastructure in the area and whether longstanding warnings were adequately addressed.
•Williams-Penny revealed that she had previously reported concerns about deteriorating utility infrastructure in the same community, citing fears that the condition of the structures posed a risk to public safety.
•She further disclosed that for more than a year she has been lobbying for the replacement of another severely rotted utility pole elsewhere within her district, but said the matter remains unresolved despite repeated appeals.
•She is now calling on the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) to provide a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether previous reports were received, what action was taken, and what steps will now be implemented to prevent a similar occurrence.
Masked gang storms attorney's home, beats him and escapes with cash and jewellery
•A Chaguanas attorney was beaten and robbed after four masked men stormed his home during a brazen daylight home invasion on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
•According to police reports, the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at a residence in Woodford Gardens, Chaguanas.
•A woman was reportedly preparing lunch when four masked men, one armed with a firearm, entered the property after jumping a fence and walking through an open front door.
•The intruders announced a robbery and relieved the woman of a quantity of gold jewellery before locking her inside a laundry room upstairs.
•The bandits then forced their way into a bedroom where they confronted the attorney. During the ordeal, he was struck several times about the head with the butt of a firearm before being robbed of jewellery and TT$10,000 in cash.
•After carrying out the attack, the suspects fled the scene in a white station wagon and escaped in an unknown direction.
