I Reached The End Of The Montgomery Canal... But It Kept Going!

This week aboard the Jolly Roger, I continue my journey along one of Britain's most peaceful waterways, cruising from Maesbury Marsh to Crickheath – the current end of navigation on the Montgomery Canal.

Along the way I travel in convoy with fellow boaters, meet Will aboard one of the accessible boats from the Lyneal Trust, and explore just how much restoration work has already taken place beyond the point where boats currently have to turn around.

Using drone footage and a bit of exploring on foot, we take a look at the future of the Montgomery Canal, including restored sections already back in water, newly built bridges and the ambitious plans to reconnect more of this historic waterway.

As if that wasn't enough, we also visit the historic St Winifred's Well near Maesbury Marsh – a site linked to one of Wales' most famous saints and a place that has attracted pilgrims for centuries.

For now, boats stop at Crickheath... but perhaps not forever.
