INTERSTELLAR LEFT US COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS — and we are still not okay!! We're back with another Mama's Geeky Mom & Daughter Reacts, and this time Tessa and Lorie are watching Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR for the very first time! (Quick note: Ivy sat this one out — but Tessa and Lorie felt every single emotion for the whole family!) If you've been requesting this one — THANK YOU. We finally watched Interstellar and it broke us in the best possible way. This is hands down one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made, and watching it blind for the first time was an experience we will never forget.
What wrecked us most:
😭 Cooper leaves Murph — we were crying before they even launched
⏳ "1 hour on that planet = 7 years on Earth" — Interstellar time dilation BROKE our brains
🌊 Miller's planet wave scene — we were SCREAMING at the screen
📺 Cooper watching 23 years of messages — the most emotional scene we've reacted to
🌑 Gargantua black hole — the visuals are unlike anything we've ever seen
🤖 TARS & CASE (Trash & Cheese to us!) — instantly iconic
😤 Dr. Mann — Matt Damon, we trusted you!!
📚 Interstellar ending explained — the tesseract, the bookshelf, Cooper's ghost... it all clicked and we LOST IT
This movie made us laugh, cry, scream, and completely question the nature of time, gravity, love, and what it means to be human. Christopher Nolan truly created something that will live forever.
If you loved our Project Hail Mary reaction, you already know how much we love emotional sci-fi — and Interstellar hits just as hard, if not harder. Both films sit at the very top of our list for best sci-fi movies ever.
Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, True Detective, The Wolf of Wall Street) gives one of the finest performances of his career as Cooper — a former NASA pilot and father torn between saving his children and saving all of humanity. Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables, The Dark Knight Rises, The Devil Wears Prada) is wonderful as Dr. Amelia Brand, bringing quiet strength and heart throughout. Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Martian, Molly's Game) is absolutely devastating as the adult Murphy Cooper — her scenes had us in pieces. Michael Caine (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk) delivers quiet, powerful gravitas as Professor Brand. Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Martian, Saving Private Ryan) plays Dr. Mann — and we will say no more to avoid spoilers!
Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, Oppenheimer) directs this film with absolute mastery — and Hans Zimmer's Interstellar score is one of the greatest soundtracks in cinema history. If you haven't listened to it separately, please do yourself a favor.
Whether you're here for the Interstellar reaction, the Interstellar ending explained, the Interstellar black hole scene, TARS moments, or just two people completely losing their minds watching a masterpiece for the first time — we hope you enjoy every second of this one.
