Today on Mr H and Friends, we're trying one of the most unusual recipes we've ever come across: Mock Apple Pie. This fascinating Great Depression-era dessert has been fooling families for generations using a surprising secret ingredient... Ritz crackers!

As Brits who absolutely love American food, we couldn't resist putting this legendary recipe to the test. Could David and Elana identify what was really inside? Or would they be convinced it was a traditional homemade apple pie?

From the smell of cinnamon and baked pastry to the incredible texture and flavour, this recipe completely blew our minds. We genuinely weren't prepared for the result!

Mock Apple Pie became popular during difficult times when fresh apples weren't always available or affordable. Using simple pantry staples, American home cooks created something that somehow tastes remarkably similar to the real thing. It's a brilliant example of the creativity, resourcefulness, and ingenuity that came out of the Great Depression.
