I am finally preparing for my next big Arctic summer journey, getting the van ready after another brutal winter season of extreme blizzards and snow storms. I head to my Dad’s workshop to change over to summer tires before taking the van in for a major service and maintenance overhaul. New brakes, timing belt replacement, oil change, filters, fluids — everything has to be done before I can safely head north again. In Norway, this kind of work is incredibly expensive, costing around $3500.
But when I go to pick up the van, there is suddenly a serious new problem that could cost me a lot more money and delay the entire Arctic journey — unless the insurance company agrees to cover it. This is bad.
While dealing with all the unexpected trouble, I also take you along through the area where I grew up, showing you parts of my hometown, shopping trips, and giving an update on my new townhouse project. I talk about my childhood here in Norway and explore the ancient Viking history surrounding the area, including burial grounds and grave sites located only a stone’s throw from where I grew up.
And at the end of the episode, I give you an exciting first preview of the unreleased blizzard survival videos from this past winter. These are some of the biggest storms I have ever filmed — extreme snow storms and polar vortex blizzards that I intentionally held back during winter so the audience would not get fatigued by constant storm uploads.
The Arctic summer journey is about to begin… but now I need to solve this problem with the van, and its not looking good....
My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Hakkapalitta studless Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in America - USA and Canada.
