Ground Report: Bengal Government Begins Deportation Of Illegal Immigrants At Border Checkposts

The new West Bengal government has initiated a strict policy to detect, detain, and deport illegal immigrants. Holding centers have been established in border areas, including the Hakimpur checkpost in North twenty-four Parganas. Hundreds of undocumented immigrants have gathered at these centers to return to their home country. The state government announced that detained individuals will be handed directly to the Border Security Force for deportation, bypassing lengthy legal procedures. Fencing work along the Bangladesh border has also commenced. The Border Security Force is actively verifying documents and biometrics before coordinating with border guards across the border for official repatriation. Many immigrants, previously residing in suburban areas of Greater Kolkata, are voluntarily leaving to avoid detention in the newly established holding centers. The move aligns with the central government's election promises to address illegal infiltration in the state.
