Winter storm survival in a van. Riding out a 72 mph and a 111 mph hurricane-force blizzard, snownado, polar vortex snow storm and whiteout conditions alone in my off-grid cozy luxury camper van high up in the mountain wilderness of the legendary North.
I was forced to evacuate my first campsite by the snow plow crews as the storm rapidly intensified into one of the most violent blizzards I have ever experienced. The mountain roads were closing, convoys were shutting down, and the winds became so extreme that even the plow truck drivers were preparing to abandon the roads.
I hunkered down outside the storm gates near the plow truck station while the blizzard unleashed hurricane-force winds around the van. This was true survival-style winter van life camping in one of the maddest snow storms of my life.
Inside the van I make coffee, cook quesadillas, stay warm and try to ride out the chaos while watching the plow trucks battle the storm outside. The sound of the wind hammering the van through the night was unbelievable.
After surviving the first monster blizzard, I continue north into the Arctic only to face an even more dangerous polar vortex storm chasing me across the frozen wilderness. Wind gusts reached up to 111 mph, powerful enough to destroy the van completely, forcing me to seek shelter deep inside a protected forest.
This was one of the wildest winter van life adventures I have ever filmed. Absolutely the Maddest!
