Colbert revealed he’s surprisingly at peace with the decision, even questioning whether the network “saved my life” by canceling the show in July 2025. At the time, CBS called the move a “purely financial decision,” but Colbert now admits the daily grind took a major toll. “It takes a lot of bone marrow to do the show every day,” he shared, explaining that stepping away gives him the time and energy to explore new creative paths. As for what’s next, Colbert says he hasn’t fully figured it out yet, joking that his mindset feels similar to that of a college senior facing graduation.
