With Guy Ritchie continuing his action-movie domination and Henry Cavill fans still demanding more spy franchises after The Man From U.N.C.L.E., we’re reacting to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare — the WWII action-comedy based on Winston Churchill’s real secret mission starring Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Eiza González, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Greg Alba & Andrew Gordon react to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, including the insane Nazi-killing action sequences, the covert mission behind Operation Postmaster, Henry Cavill’s James Bond-esque performance, Alan Ritchson going full berserker mode, and one of Guy Ritchie’s most stylish ensemble movies yet. Greg Alba & Andrew Gordon break down the film with their full reaction, recap, commentary, analysis, spoiler discussion, and review!!
Directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes), the film stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) as Gus March-Phillipps, Alan Ritchson (Reacher, Fast X) as Anders Lassen, Eiza González (Baby Driver, 3 Body Problem) as Marjorie Stewart, Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians, Snake Eyes) as Freddy Alvarez, Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After, The Woman King) as Henry Hayes, and Rory Kinnear (Skyfall, Penny Dreadful) as Winston Churchill.
Based on declassified WWII files, the movie follows a rogue team of soldiers and spies recruited by Winston Churchill to launch an unsanctioned mission against Nazi U-boats during World War II. Mixing espionage, sabotage, comedy, and over-the-top action, the film turns a real historical operation into a stylish Guy Ritchie war adventure.
The reaction especially focuses on Alan Ritchson’s brutal hand-to-hand combat scenes, Henry Cavill’s calm and charismatic leadership, Eiza González stealing scenes with her undercover infiltration storyline, and how the movie blends spy-thriller tension with western-style action and fast-paced Guy Ritchie editing. Greg & Andrew repeatedly praise the ensemble chemistry, the jazz-infused soundtrack, the stylized violence, and how surprisingly suspenseful the final harbor heist becomes.
They also react heavily to the reveal that Cavill’s character helped inspire James Bond, the Inglourious Basterds-style Nazi infiltration scenes, and just how much fun the movie has with its outrageous WWII action set pieces.
