I've had my Countryman for about three years now and it's been mostly reliable, just the occasional little quirk that comes with owning a Mini, but yesterday on my way back from work the temperature gauge started creeping up towards the red zone and I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off before anything catastrophic happened. I let it cool down for about an hour and checked the coolant level, which was a bit low, so I topped it up and drove home slowly with the heater on full blast to try and keep the temperature down, which worked but I know it's not a permanent solution. I'm pretty sure there's a leak somewhere because I've noticed a small puddle under the car a couple of times recently, but I can't see exactly where it's coming from because everything is so tightly packed in the engine bay. The thing is, I've heard these N18 engines can have issues with the water pump and thermostat housing cracking, which is apparently pretty common, so I'm bracing myself for a potentially expensive repair. I live and work near the Musaffah area and I really need to find somewhere that knows these cars well and can diagnose the problem properly without just guessing and replacing parts randomly. I've been searching around and it seems like finding a quality Mini Cooper workshop in Musaffah is the way to go, but I'm hoping someone here can recommend a specific place they've had a good experience with for cooling system issues. Has anyone else dealt with overheating problems on their Countryman and can tell me what the fix ended up being? I'm really hoping it's not something too serious.
