Presenting: Mason Thames and Mckenna Grace’s Full Relationship Timeline, From ‘Regretting You’ to ‘Nimrods’

Fact of life: Everyone loves a good showmance, which is why the Regretting You press tour had the internet positively spiraling. For months, the film’s stars Mckenna Grace and Mason Thames teased fans about whether or not they were dating in real life with their flirty off-screen behavior…until, at long last, they officially hard-launched their relationship.

And by hard-launched, I mean Mckenna brought Mason as her date to the biggest night in Hollywood, the 2026 Oscars.

Now they’re back on our screens with Nimrods, which means the time has come to review Mckenna and Mason’s relationship timeline from the very beginning. Starting with...

The cast for Regretting You—the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name—is announced, with Mckenna and Mason set to star as the film’s romantic leads.

Soon after, the two make their first public appearance together at Netflix’s Incoming House Party event.

Filming begins in Atlanta...and presumably, sparks start flying.

Mckenna oh-so-casually drops this TikTok of a playfully staged kiss between herself and Mason, which has fans like ??????

Not long after, they’re spotted together at the Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA game with their Regretting You costar Dave Franco.

In May, Mckenna posts a photo dump on IG, which includes a few cute candid pics of herself and Mason. Swiiiipe:

Later, Mason chats with Seventeen and has nothing but good things to say about Mckenna calling her “one of the most driven people I’ve ever met in my life” and “one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

When asked how it feels to have so many people speculating about their relationship (particularly after *that* TikTok) he says, “Yeah, it is strange. But I’ve always sort of been off the internet. I’ve always kind of kept everything to myself and been very personal. Having people speculate so much, especially having mutual friends texting me and asking…it’s wild. I’m still not used to it.”

Mason celebrates his birthday...with Grace! As he explains to People, “I was home back in Texas and I got like a little birthday week and Mckenna was also there, and that was really nice. We spent that together and I spent some time with my family and some of my best friends, and it was nice. It was chill.”

Of Mckenna, he adds, “She’s so funny and such a nice person, so she gels with everybody.” Asked about their experiencing filming together, he continues to gush, “I've never met somebody with a work ethic like hers. She pushes herself every day harder and harder and she’s so incredibly talented. So just watching that, it really motivates me.”

Mckenna is asked about that April TikTok during an appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends, with Jenna Bush Hager straight-up saying, “So he’s your partner in the film, but is he also kind of your partner?”

And while she initially dodges the question with a “no comment,” Mckenna eventually says, “I love Mason. He’s my favorite person.”

After nearly a year of dating rumors, Mason takes to Instagram to share pics of himself and Mckenna vacationing in Paris—including one photo where Mckenna is kissing him on the cheek in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Mason also chats with E! News and reveals how he and Mckenna first found out they were doing back-to-back movies together.

“I was filming How to Train Your Dragon 1 and I had signed on to Green Day maybe a couple of weeks before,” he recalled. “I didn’t think she was signed on. It wasn’t even a thought in my mind. Then I signed on to Regretting You with Mckenna. I’d met her once before, so I texted her and I was like, ‘Hey, super excited to work with you. It’s gonna be fun.’”

He continued, “She was like, ‘Yeah, I’m so excited for Green Day.’ I was like, ‘What? What are you talking about? Green Day?’ So we found out we were doing two movies back-to-back. It was a wild, crazy, weird coincidence.”

Oh, and he also says this of his connection with Mckenna: “We say all the time, if we hadn’t met before, and we met on the day and were shooting a movie, our chemistry would be the same. That just goes with how easy it is to work with her.”
