As I've observed a few times, it seems that the Survivors-like is becoming quite a popular subgenre. But while My Hero Academia United Survival and The Walking Dead: Aftermath were big names, there are plenty of indie attempts to emulate the formula, like Duriano does!
Slated to arrive around August 14th, Duriano is a cutesy roguelike that sees you take on the role of an adorable character fighting through enemies inspired by Norse mythology. You'll have to make use of different weapons and the abilities of each hero to survive, while crafting the perfect build to take on the endgame boss Surtr.
Surviving Ragnarok Duriano is a strange little beast. Much like Vampire Survivors, it's a fast-paced bullet heaven where your objective is to grow stronger and eventually overcome hordes of enemies with a finely crafted build. But its style seems quite at odds with its Norse inspiration.Certainly, I don't remember odd little chibi characters being anywhere in the sagas. But at the same time, Duriano offers a 3D arena to battle your way through, as well as various ways to tweak and upgrade your character as you go, not to mention varied environments to use to your advantage.
The translation does seem a little finicky for Duriano. But I'm interested to see how well it does. So if you like a mixture of Survivors-style, fast-paced combat and build crafting alongside cute characters, then Duriano may well be worth checking out.
