A bunch of cool stuff is coming for indie games, including some top notch knights from Corvus Belli.
The big guys of the miniatures industry have dominated the spotlight this summer, but there’s plenty of cool stuff happening in the indie scene. Between new miniatures, new sculpting studios, and whole new games, this summer has provided a wealth of stuff worth checking out even if you normally stick to Warhammer.
Warcrow – Feudom Knights
A pair of stunning medieval knights are on offer for Warcrow players, or anyone who has a need for some beautiful fantasy knight sculpts. Corvus Belli made a reputation for incredible miniature sculpts with Infinity, and they are bringing that same aesthetic drip to their fantasy setting. This pair of knights is a core unit for Feudom players and is some of the most powerful cavalry units in the entire game. They only get meaner when paired with named characters like Pierre Besson and Geneviève. Really beautiful sculpts here, and they look like they’ll be a real joy to paint.
Test of Honour – Sohei Monk
Anyone who’s talked to me about miniatures for any length of time has heard me rave about Test of Honour. A fast-paced, cinematic skirmish game of Samurai warbands, Test of Honour is my favorite miniatures game of the past decade. So, any release from them instantly has my attention. This new monk is a boost to Sohei and Ikko Ikki warbands and offers some formidable options.
A fearsome addition for any Sohei Warrior Monk or Ikko Ikki force, the Sohei Oshō is a senior priest who leads your devout followers in battle as well as in prayer. At the start of each game he choses between the Prayer of Guidance or the Prayer of Inspiration. The first boosts the Oshō himself in combat (wielding his razor-sharp naginata), while the second bolsters a nearby follower. The chosen prayer can be recited up to three times to generate a massive bonus on the next attack!
Don’t sleep on Test of Honour, folks. Anyone who loves miniatures skirmish and samurai should give it a spin.
Paul Hicks Miniatures
Veteran sculptor Paul Hicks has announced the upcoming launch of his own dedicated webstore and miniatures range. Hicks is one of the most talented traditional sculptors working today. His sculpts have set the tone for much of the historical and indie-fantasy gaming scene for many years with contributions for Footsore Miniatures, Warhost, and many others. If you’ve even dipped your toe into historical skirmish in the past decade, you have undoubtedly seen his characterful work. Sign up to learn more at his new site, where we can expect to see more historical miniatures and system-agnostic fantasy minis like his popular “Hicky’s Halflings” line.
Relic Blade – Moth Dancer
The Moth Dancer is a graceful warrior from the dark depths of the Lostwood.
The latest hero to join the Advocate alignment in Relicblade, the Moth Dancer is one of the most unique miniatures I’ve seen in a minute. As always, the Moth Dancer is sculpted by Relic Blade one-man-creator/army, Sean Sutter, with painting by Malev. Another small skirmish game full of characterful and evocative miniatures, Relicblade is a great game for anyone seeking a change of pace from the grim dark future/realms, etc, especially as they make their first forays into plastic starter sets.
Have you tried a new skirmish game recently?
