has read the script for the 11th “Fast & Furious” film, and he is singing its praises.
“I just read the ‘‘ script by [Michael Lesslie]. It is the best script I have read in decades,” Diesel wrote on Instagram. “I am still crying…”
The post was shared alongside a trailer for the upcoming re-release of the original “The Fast and the Furious” film, which is coming back to theaters on Aug. 21 in time for its 25th anniversary. That film starred Diesel alongside the late Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yue and Chad Lindberg, kicking off the long-running action franchise after grossing $207 million worldwide (not adjusted for inflation).
In his Instagram post, Diesel also teased that “Fast Forever” will have a tie to the original film: “You will thank God you got to see the First one in the theaters this summer.”
“Fast Forever” is the latest film in the action franchise after “Fast X,” which was released in May 2023 and grossed $704 million worldwide. It left things off on a big cliffhanger, teasing Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson’s returns with two post-credit scenes. “Fast Forever” will be directed by Louis Leterrier, known for “The Transporter” and “The Incredible Hulk.”
Lesslie was announced to be writing the script back in March. Sources told Variety that he rewrote a script previously penned by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean. Lesslie has written “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” “Macbeth,” “Assassin’s Creed,” “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” and “Hamlet” starring Riz Ahmed. He also penned the screenplay for “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which will hit theaters on November 20, in addition to executive producing both “The Rescue” and “Thirteen Lives.”
“Fast Forever” will release in theaters March 17, 2028.
