Hong Kong warns of severe infections caused by Vibrio

Health officials in Hong Kong have warned about a summer rise in a serious bacterial infection that can be caused by consumption of raw seafood or contact with seawater.

Vibrio vulnificus is present naturally in warm marine environments. Its concentration typically increases in summer when seawater temperatures rise.
